Buffering is the most common complaint from IPTV viewers. The good news: most freezing problems come from the home network or device, and you can fix them in a few minutes. Work through these fixes in order.
1. Restart your device and router
Turn off your TV device and unplug your router for 30 seconds. A simple restart clears memory and refreshes the connection, and it solves many buffering problems on its own.
2. Test your internet speed
Run a speed test on the same device you watch on. As a guide (see our IPTV internet speed guide), you need at least 15 Mbps for HD and Full HD and 25 Mbps or more for 4K. If several people are streaming or downloading at the same time, you need more.
3. Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi
A wired Ethernet cable gives the most stable connection. If you must use Wi-Fi, connect to the 5 GHz network and move the router closer to the TV. Firestick users can add a small Ethernet adapter.
4. Lower the stream quality
If a 4K channel keeps freezing, switch to the Full HD or HD version. It uses less bandwidth and stays smooth on slower connections.
5. Clear the app cache
On Firestick and Android TV go to Settings → Applications → Manage installed applications, select your player app and choose Clear cache. Do not clear data unless support asks you to, as it removes your login.
6. Free up device storage and memory
Streaming sticks with little free space slow down. Uninstall apps you do not use and close background apps.
7. Update the player app and device
Install the latest version of your player app and the latest system update for your TV or streaming device.
8. Change DNS or try a different network
Some broadband connections handle streaming traffic poorly at busy times. Testing on a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, helps you see whether the issue comes from your connection.
9. Contact support with details
If the problem continues, send your provider the channel name, the time it happened, your device and a screenshot. Clear details help support fix the issue quickly. IPTV Ireland customers can message our support team on WhatsApp.
